The Plain-English Definition
A tail-lift (also called a hydraulic tailgate) is a flat platform fitted to the back of a truck that mechanically lowers to ground level, holds your goods, and lifts them back up to the tray height. No ramp, no forklift, no two-person carry up a step.

GVM vs Payload: The Distinction That Actually Matters
This is where a lot of quotes go wrong. People hear “4.5-tonne truck” and assume that’s how much cargo it can carry. It isn’t.
The maximum legal total weight of the truck including the vehicle itself, fuel, the tail-lift unit, the driver, and the load. It’s a regulatory ceiling, not a cargo figure.
What’s actually left over for your goods once the truck’s own weight, fuel, and equipment (like the tail-lift itself, which adds weight) are subtracted from GVM. This is the number that matters to you.
