What $10.99/kg Is Calculated On
Air freight is charged on chargeable weight — whichever is higher between actual weight and volumetric weight. This matters most for bulky, lightweight goods.
So a dense 15 kg carton of hardware is charged at 15 kg. A 60 × 50 × 50 cm box of cushions weighing 8 kg is charged at 25 kg, because that’s the space it occupies on the aircraft.
